Great story about North Texan Avery Zweig, who is the number-one ranked golfer for her age in the world. She has big goals. And with her dad’s help, she thinks she can achieve them.

ASHES
Miles Doran, WUFT-TV, Gainesville
This student-reported story is great example of central character development.  The story is memorable, in part, because Bill is such a likable man.

KNOW BEFORE YOU TOW
Boyd Huppert, KARE 11, Minneapolis-St. Paul
This is a sad story that is well told. There are no over-used adjectives and cliches such as tragic, heart-breaking, a parent’s worst nightmare, devastating and shocking. Good writers let the story tell itself and withhold the words that manipulate the audience by telling viewers how they should feel.

THE PRESCHOOLER AND THE WWII VET
Boyd Huppert, KARE 11, Minneapolis-St. Paul
This is a great story with surprises that also offers examples of parallel parking audio.

THE SHOEMAKER
Lauren Rautenkranz, WUFT NEWS
This is a nice story that was shot and edited by one of our WUFT reporters.

LEARNING TO READ
I really like the way this story is put together. It reveals much about the challenges of living a life without reading skills. And it’s well edited.
Emily Wood, KY3

FOR THE LOVE OF LAURA
This is a sad story with a happy ending that captures many emotions and lets the viewers into the lives of a family living with loss and love.
Eric Hanson, Glen Biermann & Mike Sims, KCCI-TV

THEY ONLY GET ONE
This is a story about a mother and daughter who sew burial gowns for babies that are made out of wedding dresses. Very well done.
